 Different sheens and mattes allude to shades of the same color scheme.  You can play this up in many ways, from the rough stone-like backsplash tile, to the subtle gloss on the countertops (in this case Quartz), to the matte finish of the cabinets.  Lighting is also very important; task, accent and general lighting are all featured in this kitchen.
