New River Bank Barn
After being invited to a wonderful wedding reception held in a restored barn this summer, I am fascinated by these converted spaces (I measured one of the barn floor boards at 21″ wide, incredible!). They once held the sustaining grain store, feed and shelter for animals, but with care and thoughtfulness now provide an intriguing place to entertain.
This historic barn originally built in the late 1800’s was re-imagined by Blackburn Architects for a party and reception spot for the owners and their fortunate friends. The north end wall was replaced with floor to ceiling windows for a spectacular view of their countryside.
Hearing that so many of these gorgeous and sturdy old barns are being torn down for reclaimed flooring is a little sad when you consider just what could be done.
