The Importance of Florals in Design
Flowers and plants are a wonderful way to breathe life in your designs. They can accentuate a color, create a focal point, or set the tone in the room.
Take this dining room for example. The drowning deep hues of indigo and blue in bunches of hydrangea flowers in this room designed by Nancy Corzine are rich and welcoming. Hydrangeas are such a lush flower; I even chose them for my bridal bouquet for a smashing pop of color! See how the blues resonate from the velvety blue upholstered chairs to the centerpieces? Just fabulous.
This bathroom is divine, this image is actually the reason why I wrote this post; just something about the ferns was so hauntingly beautiful. This bathroom was featured in the 2006 March/ April edition of the Kitchen and Bath Ideas magazine. I appreciate the millwork, the architectural details, but what really gets me is this curled fern arrangement by the window! Mirroring the scrolls in the corbels under the cabinets, the organic shape of the golden male fern plants are beautifully simple, and add so much visual interest to the room. A fantastic choice.
Here is a striking and simple arrangement of Calla Lilies in a glass vase which adorns this formal foyer . These lilies are very elegant and tasteful. White is a good choice when you want to add a fresh touch without the conundrum of adding yet another color to a collage. This image was featured in the 2004 December edition of House and Home magazine.
