Fun Ideas For Playroom PDF Print E-mail

 childrens play room

Here are some fun suggestions for a child's play room:

Chalkboard Paint is a funtastic idea for painting your wall. Get creative; you can paint the area under a chair molding, paint large sihlouettes of bugs or trees, or mount a large rococo picture frame on your wall and paint the area inside.

Ikea has some interesting and playful pieces of furniture and lighting in the children's section. The MAMMUT table and chairs  have exagerated shapes and the chairs are available in different colors. The Smila Blomma wall lights are only $8.99! Once the blooms are fixed to the walls and secure, they are perfectly safe. I even love how the green stem (cord) plugs into an outlet.

Restaurants like Jack Astors have the right idea! They use kraft paper and dispensers to rip off sheets for each table use. Kraft paper is an inexpensive art paper and can double as a drop sheet for crafts. A dispenser makes it easy to refresh, just be sure the dispenser is fixed into studs, the paper rolls lock in place, and is high enough kids can't reach (there is a toothy strip for ripping off sheets along the front).

Don't you just love a home tour! Especially if it is a tour of a fabulouslly decorated home YOU could win! This is the grand prize home for the Princess Margaret Lottery for Cancer Research, it supports a great cause and looks divine! The home is located in Woodbridge, Ontario- take a peek inside!

This is a view from the main hallway looking towards the entrance, front living room, and elegant dining room. The coffered oval ceilings mirror the harleqiun mosaic marbled floors.

The dining room and font living room seem very warm in tone considereing all the silvery-blues and white. This is acheived very nicley by pairing those colors with rich browns and carmel hues along with pale celadon green.

The exterior of the home has great stone detail!

The upstairs hallway branches out to three very different bedrooms! The media room in the brightly colored Bedroom #2 is a very fun idea and great use of space- you won't have to worry about Wii controllers cluttering your Chistopher Guy coffee table! Each bedroom also feature their own Ensuite bathroom. The Ensuite to Bedroom #3 is my favorite; the powder-blue paisley wallpaper and black and white horizontally striped tiled floor and bath is gorgeous. The Master foyer, bedroom and ensuite are located to the right of this view.

This is the view from the stairs looking towards the sunk in living room off the kitchen.  The living room features 12 foot ceilings and gas fireplace and alot of light via the bevy of tall windows. The beautiful blue and camel colored window treatments help draw the eye up at the graciouslly high ceiling. For a virtual tour of this home, click here!

Style File: Personal Fashion Relating to Interior Design PDF Print E-mail

One of the great freedoms is freedom of expression.  I frequent the online photographic posts of the Sartorialist, he travels around the world posting images of people who through fashion are quite inspirational and unique.  I like to imagine some of his muses in their own homes, I sometimes wonder; how do they accessorize their living space, what are their dinner parties like, is their home a reflection of the person I see before me?  The joy of being an interior designer is not imposing my exact idea of design upon a client but finding their voice and translating that to their home in a pleasing way.  I will be selecting a few of Sart’s around the world personalities and translating their fashion and expressions to interiors. First impressions are lasting- are you wearing your Franco Sartos darlings?

Lady in Red Black Apartment Style File Fashion relating to Design

The lovely lady in red is a vamp. This picture was taken in Milano, she is ultra dramatic, chic and established, she would rather the world be monochromatic so she may stand out like a striking piece of art. I chose her interior as a converted loft in Manhattan that is painted black like the interior of a Chinese lacquered box decorated with signature pieces arranged like a gallery, just stunning.

Crisp white and black and seriously stylish, this young lady in Paris holds herself perfectly poised.  I selected her interior as a clean and modernistic kitchen featuring smooth unassuming lines and a pretty light fixture.

Kate Hepburn look-a-like Dining Room Style File Fashion relating to Design

This Kate Hepburn look-alike from Berlin is casual but traditional, with loosely tousled hair and laid back pose she walks leisurely with her hands slipped into the pockets of her fashionable wide leg pants. I chose an interior I feel reflects her best as a glamorous yet time honored dining room with bold vertical red-on-red striped walls and classic Henkel Harris Dining Room set.

Lady in Blue living Room Style File Fashion Relating to Design

The simple but pretty chevron-patterned vintage dress of this youthful New Yorker is a refreshing look. I thought her design would be light airy colors of blues and celadon, with interesting graphics and fabric textures like this cool hued living room.So what do you think? Are my first impressions way off, or do you think the designs suit?

How To: Great Rooms PDF Print E-mail

How To: Great Rooms

Ever wonder how to place your furniture when the size of your great room is...well, great?  A backless sofa like the Jackson Studio Sofa or a large chaise can covert seamlessly to service the inner portion of the room, as well as the outer-skirts; this is a benefit especially when you host large gatherings for comfortable conversational groupings.  Tie a color from one end of the room to another (like the coral in this great room) by coordinating or complementing drapery, matting on your artwork, or upholstery; this will visually unite the entire area.  On that note, if you would like to “assign” a portion of the room to a different task, using different colors to designate an office space or reading nook can accomplish just that.
