Garland LightThe Garland Light by Tord Boontje has been awarded for best light as well as the Metropolitan Home readers' choice award for Futuristic classics, and obviously so, it has gained my attention for its’ beautifully cascading arrangement of brass-finished laser cut floral designs.  When lit, it almost appears to be swarmed by a host of flittering botanicals, in the same way that June bugs try to bask in the warmth of a single post lamp on a summers’ night.  $59 for Shade only$165 for Garland Light with Table Lamp Stand $702 for Garland Light 24K Gold Plated

Cherry Blossom Lights

They can really light up anything these days, so think like Kanye at the Grammys and get creative kids. Dramatic and fun, the Cherry Blossom Branch with Decorative Flower Lights works as a great accent light for anything from a pretty guest suite, to arrangements flanking either side of a fireplace.  35 decorative flower lights bloom over the branches for a fantastic evening look.

Atlantic Tripod LampTripod floor lamps are hot right now; they blend in seamlessly in a converted loft, in an artsy up-town office, or your home library/ den.  I love the nickel finish and the overly emphasized industrial feel of the Atlantic Lamp by Eichholtz from the Netherlands (page 92 in the on-line catalogue).  For a similar fixture for a fraction of the price, triple check these tripod options:Photographer's Tripod Floor Lamp by Pottery Barn $299Spotlight Floor lamp by Chiasso $98Spotlight Floor Lamp by JC Penny $239 Now $79

 How To: Effective Lighting

Every room in your house should have something in common; spectacular lighting!  In living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms, and kitchens, you should have three types of lighting:General Lighting: This is the general light that highlights the size and use of the room at hand.  Pot-lights, ceiling fixtures or even chandeliers may serve in this purpose.  Always have your general lighting on a dimmer switch so you may control the ambience, then your dining room table can serve as a craft table or to set the stage for a truly romantic evening.Task Lighting: This type of lighting refers to reading lamps, stair marker lights, under-cabinet lighting, and basically anything that will help you see better for performing a particular task.

Accent Lighting:  This is one of the most important but most over-looked types of lighting. Accent Lighting is what makes your space pop.  Forgetting this type of lighting is like leaving the house with-out mascara or eyeliner *gasp*. This is also the best way to get creative; think of a well placed candelabra, hidden up-lighting, cove-ceiling lights, down-lighting in a wall notch-out, even chromatherapy options in your tub.  Directional Ceiling lights that you may use for general lighting can be used in combination as accent lighting by simply positioning the heads towards artwork or other focus points.

Black Clear Crystal Chandelier

New and terribly dramatic for its size (hmmm, much like me), this crystal and black lighting fixture is just perfect for your foyer or entryway.  I love the details, the scrolls of black and beads of crystal makes this chandelier my top pick for a small to mid size entrance.
